FACT destroys P3D v4

Post by IanHarr » Sat Nov 10, 2018 12:59 pm

Just bought and downloaded FACT. Installation seemed to be OK. At the end it asked if I wanted to activate 2 sets of files. Said OK and it finished.
After that P3D will not load. It has the revolving blue circle for ever.
I tried putting the files in the suggested directory and on the main P3D drive but it just hangs.
Seriously unimpressed.

That sounds like something went wrong on installation. Please remove the scenery using the uninstaller and install it again. You can choose your favorite install location but don't move it or try to add it manually to P3Dv4 as the installer takes care of that automatically.

If you are having the same issue I had. The problem is with one of the addon.xml files (I think its the FSDG-Apt ALT files xml). The installer is putting an incorrect path in that xml and the sim cant read it, if you find the xml and correct the path, the sim will load.

Btw, for me, this happened with ALL my FSDG sceneries after installation.

It should happen with NONE of your FSDG addons. ;-)
There are 2 different add-on.xml files, one for the ALT files (in the user documents (sub)folder and one for the actual addon files. Both should never be moved or edited (just like the actual scenery files). If something is wrong a new installation usually solves the issue better than trying to manually edit or move files.

FACT was my first FSDG addon and after installation, I had the same issue as OP described. I went through the entire installation and found the add-on.xml located at \Documents\Prepar3D v4 Add-ons\FSDG contained some bogus generic path and not the actual path to the sim. No amount of re-installations would fix it. I then installed GOBD and found my sim would not load again. That same add-on.xml had been edited/replaced by the GOBD installer with the same incorrect path the FACT installer created. Again, the only way I could fix this was to edit the entry int that add-on.xml manually.

That should not happen. We have not had any similar reports yet. Can you please post the content of the original xml file and the changes you needed to apply for it to work?

I have had continuous problems with P3D since installing FACT. If I give permission for FSDG Apt Alt to load, P3D just hangs and never loads. If I leave it out then P3D will complete.
I don't know how to correct this as the xml does not have any directory for P3D shown.

To follow on to my previous post above. After reading the post about the xml file, I took a chance and managed to open it. The file does not contain a path to P3D.
So I added the path and surprise, surprise, P3D has completed loading. :-O
