FMEE lights issue P3D v4

Post by ProfessorMadman » Wed Jul 19, 2017 2:43 pm

Hello FSDG team

Thanks for getting the P3D v4 updates out, greatly appreciated. Three things, if I may :)

1) I've downloaded the installer for v4 for Reunion from the eSellerate store and am facing this issue:

Image

I translated a thread in the German forum and saw that someone else reported this and it was mentioned that the new installers would solve this problem, but it does not seem that that's the case.

2) I also downloaded all the latest installers for the sceneries from Simmarket today and they now all reside outside of the P3D folder (in Prepar3D v4 Add-ons) but the configurator tool still sits within P3D and when I launch it the airports are missing on the tabs. Will there be a new configuration tool available soon to configure things like dynamic lights, etc?

3) And finally, I noticed that your HESH scenery is not v4 compatible yet (at least on the product page). Are there plans to bring P3D v4 compatibility to this airport?

Thanks for your continued work!

The new light technology at Reunion can causes those effects if you zoom in on an airport. If you fly with a zoom factor of 0.3-1.0 this should not happen. We're still looking for another way of making those lights, but we find that they are a big improvement to all other airports lights we saw (and made) yet, so for the moment we keep them and look for a way to avoid this effect at higher zoom levels.

Please uninstall the old version of the Config Tool and install the new one:

This will be installed to user documents/prepar3d v4 add-ons/FSDG.

Hi Thorsten,

Thanks for the response. I managed to get the new Configurator tool for v4 installed, thanks! :D Any news on Sharm El Sheikh (HESH) for v4?

I'm still seeing the light artefact at FMEE even with standard zoom between 0.3 and 1.0 - I just zoomed in on the shot to give you clearer view in the previous post. Here is the approach at 0.90 zoom:

I'm also finding with dynamic lights enabled at FMEE I'm getting 6-8FPS on the apron at night which does not align with the rest of the aerodromes in your portfolio. I get 33 - 34 FPS on the apron at Heraklion, 75 - 86 FPS at FSIA and 40 - 46 FPS at YAYE at night with the same settings and dynamic lights enabled.

I'm running P3D with MSAAx4 and average 80 - 120FPS at FMEE during the day.

Specs:

i7 5820k o/c to 4.5Ghz stable
32MB DDR4 RAM
980Ti Strix OC

Can you please replace the original FMEE_Spots.bgl (backup original) with the attached one. Do you get any performance improvements with that file?

Hello Thorsten,

Thanks for the quick reply! :)

No change with that BGL file but I have played around with the configurator and am now getting a more acceptable frame rate on the apron with dynamic lights with these settings:

With this setting, the FMEE_Spots.bgl is renamed to FMEE_Spots.off and I'm now getting 25 - 35 FPS at night on the apron with dynamic lights enabled on both terminal and vehicles (even in PMDG 77W):

The 3D light cones (spots) can currently cause low fps if the user aircraft is very close by. Doesn't make any sense, but it's something we also had in our tests. We're still trying to find the answer to that riddle, but we're working on it.

No problem Thorsten. I'm happy with the settings as is for now without the light cones.

Can't wait to see what magic you guys do with Mauritius ;-) Still no idea about Sharm for v4?

All our sceneries are now P3Dv4 compatible. Thanks for pointing out the error on the product page. ;-)

Good to know! It seems Simmarket is still missing the Sharm (HESH) v4 installer though - I've downloaded the current one on my history and it only allows selection up to P3Dv3 when running it.

It might take some time until all new installers are at our retailer shops. Send them a support ticket if they haven't arrived by Friday.

Which problem? Lights from the distance or performance?

That should not happen at FIMP. What screen (resolution) and zoom factor do you use?

I seem to have seen the same thing when there was fog, if I see it again I'll take a picture.
